The Big Blue Helium Filled Balloon – A Parable
ByThe Big Blue Helium Filled Balloon – A Parable*

Remember as a child, or as you watch your own child, the pure pleasure of picking a favorite helium filled balloon. You wait for the vendor to pull it free and the anticipation of receiving into your hand is nirvana. You proudly show this big blue gas filled balloon off, wave it around proudly, and later take it home. You set it aside, because there’s no one to watch, and off you go to bed.
The next morning you awake and off to find your amazing blue balloon. But to your horror and disappointment the helium has magically disappeared. No longer rising, your balloon now rests somewhat shrunken on the floor. You no longer are proud to show it off and you complain to your parents. They assure you that you will get another one some day soon.

* A parable is a brief, succinct story, in prose or verse, that illustrates a moral or religious lesson. It differs from a fable in that fables use animals, plants, inanimate objects, and forces of nature as characters, while parables generally feature human characters.
