Border/immigration problem. Your solution of bolstering the Mexican economy seems a good idea, as only a small part of the soultion. First the American economy is in the crapper so the amout of aid we can give them is small. If it keep getting worse, maybe THEY will help us! Second, we must get a handle of the illegals. I thnk we should at the least id them, rounding them up will be difficult. We id them and the ones with clean records that are the real folks wanting to work and better themselves, we let stay but on the path to citizenship and they DON'T get 1st in line. The ones that have committed crimes, they get deported. Next we STOP the illegal flow into the country via fence on BOTH borders. Once done, and only AFTER being fenced, do we resume influx of visas and citizenship apps. There is no simple solution but doing nothing is not an option.
