A Sleeping Giant Has Awakened
By George Benham
The left wing of our society is at a loss as to what is happening at these town hall meetings. They are trying to dismiss them as “astro-turf radical right wing mobsters” organized by the Republican Party. While there are a lot of Republicans there, there are also a lot of Democrats and Independents too. We label ourselves as Americans; as angry with the Republicans as we are with the Democrats.
I am reminded of a saying from the movie “Dantes Peak” in which Pierce Brosnan was trying to convince his people the seriousness of an imminent volcanic eruption. He said
“If you put a frog into cold water and slowly warm it up, it will set there and boil to death. If you put it in hot water it will jump out.”
The silent majority of Americans represents the “frog in cold water.” We have allowed our freedoms to slowly erode for the last 90 years or so while we stayed silent. In 1782 the Congress of the United States voted this resolution: “The Congress of the United States recommends and approves the Holy Bible in all schools.
In recent times we have allowed a few atheistic people to complain about religion in our schools. Our federal courts have mis-interpreted our Constitution and stricken prayer and all forms of religion from all schools. The “water” has not got hot enough to get our attention. We stay asleep.
We have allowed a continual attack on the 2nd and 10th Amendments to our Constitution and while we don’t like it, we stay silent. Had Congress continued on the same path of eroding our Constitutional rights we would probably sat there silent and “be boiled to death”.
Then along came Obama and his socialist-Marxist ideology, destroying capitalism, raising our national debt 1 trillion dollars and counting, trying to push
universal health care down our throats, taking over our banking system, taking over our automobile industry and attacking anyone who apposed him. We have become the “frog put in hot water.” The “water” is too hot, we jumped out. We re-educated ourselves on the Constitution and finally realize we have set silent and allowed Congress and our federal courts to remove some of our basic rights to freedom. In 1775 John Adams said in a letter to Abigail Adams, “But a Constitution of Government once changed from freedom, can never be restored. Liberty, once lost, is lost forever.”
A sleeping giant has awakened. The anger you are seeing at the town hall meetings is about cramming socialized medicine down our throats, but in my opinion the anger goes much deeper than that. We are also angry at ourselves for allowing our freedoms to slip away from us.
They can call us what ever they want to, we will be silent no longer. We will do what ever it takes to regain our freedoms. Our States rights will be restored. Capitalism will be restored. We will not allow these injustices any longer.
We will take Congress to task and remove all Senators and Representatives we need to in order to re-gain our Constitutional rights we have lost.
