Obama to Seak Spending Freeze – Really?
ByPresident Obama is apparently seeking a spending freeze for the 2011 Federal Budget. The report comes from comments by senior administration officials.
The freeze being proposed by the President’s would apply to annual spending on day-to-day government programs that does not involve mandatory spending on Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. According to reports, the spending freeze will not include defense programs that include the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, foreign aid, budgets of Veteran’s Administration, and Department of Homeland Security.
As much as I like the idea of a Federal Budget spending freeze, I am left wondering what took them so long? And, because of the many questionable tactics of this administration, I’m wondering just what will they try to rush through before a spending freeze is set into place? My last question is supported in Democrats stating that they are against any spending freeze during an election year which is likely to open up a fight between Democrats and the White House.
Officials have also said that Obama is to seek increased spending on programs like education and the environment.
A FOX News report quoted an official,
“The president made these decisions the way a family would sitting around the dinner table,” another official said. “It can’t spend more money than it has and it has to make some decisions about what is vital. You can’t afford to do everything you might have wanted to do.”
