Contributor Letter to Hearst News Service Regarding History of Israel

By

Just a couple of days ago, I had the great fortune of meeting a gentleman by the name of Donald Bowles (a history major). During our conversation, he was eager to show me a letter he had written to Hearst News Service, immediately following the Helen Thomas interview where she loosely exposed her deep-seated hatred towards Israel and Jews. Although she has since apologized for her statement and resigned from the news service, the email still remains current because of the factual history contained within it’s writings.

Mr. Bowles has authorized me to reprint and share his letter with you as seen below:

Dear Sir:

I recently saw an interview of Helen Thomas making her statement that Jews need to go back to where they came from. I know she apologized but she also needs to be educated concerning the facts. I am a history major and have done considerable research on the matter. Please have Ms. Thomas study up on the facts.

First of all, the Jews have had a much longer history in Palestine than the so called Palestinians. Look it up on the internet. The Jews were forcefully removed from their native land. The Palestinians are in reality from Jordan and are relative newcomers compared to Jews.

Secondly, the Jews are there because of the Balfour agreement. Look that up as well. I know England was an occupying force but the Jews had nothing to do with that. If you use the argument that Jews should leave because the English had no rights to the land; then, the same logic could be used to tell Muslims to get out of the U.S. Knowing Ms. Thomas’ liberal bias, I am sure she thinks their presence here is okay.

Thirdly, the Jews never forced the Palestinians off of any land. They tried to coexist with them. It was the Palestinians and other Arab nations that have been the aggressors. Since when is it against the law to defend yourself and your property? Excuse me, I know, it has been politically incorrect since Sept 11, 2001.

Fourth, the Palestinians have constantly shot missiles into Israel. Why has the news media, including yours, always taken a Palestinian slant on this? The Palestinians kill Jews and the Jews defend themselves and our news media condemns Israel for defending itself-as if the Jews were the aggressors.

Lastly, before the Jews went back to their homeland, Palestine was a wasteland. They have made it into a land that is rich with agriculture and commerce. The Palestinians have benefited from the way the Jews have made the land prosperous. Something the media has failed to look at is, Israel has sent far more aid to Gaza than those ships the IDF boarded. The ships that contained aid were not harmed. The Jewish sailors were attacked with clubs before they defended themselves.

Every peace agreement in that area has been broken by the Palestinians, not the Jews. I am not asking that you take one side or the other. I am just asking that journalists become what their profession should require, honesty and professionalism. When the news media tells only one side of an issue, then how is the news media any better than the media of Nazi Germany? The bias in today’s media is the reason people have quit reading the newspapers and reading periodicals as well as trusting TV news. People, by observation, see the news from internet blogs is far more reliable. In fact, they came into existence, because the media has failed in its mission.

Sincerely,

Donald Bowles
