We travel to Washington D.C. this week to plead Michael’s case before the Army Clemency Board.  We have so much to tell them, but we are given only ten minutes to convey our many thoughts.  Amazingly, Michael’s sentence of 20 years is twice what any other soldier has been sentenced for unpremeditated murder.  It is our hope that the Clemency Board will at the very least bring Michael’s sentence into line with others.  Even better would be if the Board decided to release him pending his appeal.

Michael’s attorney’s filed his appeal on 12/22/09 and their appellate brief gives us great hope the appellate court will need to look long and hard as to whether Michael received a fair trial.  Special focus was put on the prosecution withholding crucial evidence offered by their own expert which could have exonerated Michael on the murder charge.

As a Navy Wife (because you are never a former) I have many memories of Veterans and Veterans’ Day. I remember deployments that were long and frustrating for my husband and myself. Through them though we grew. There is nothing stronger than a military spouse except for their spouse. The times that you are separated can not be explained and all the memories that could never be, are sometimes a strain. Something so simple and silly as my husband having watched a shipboard movie and a couple years later I would see it for the first time. He would say “Remember this is where….” and I wouldn’t have a clue. Sometimes you would question yourself. After a bit of arguing, you would discover the “when” it happened. Only a military spouse would appreciate this.

I look fondly over my Great Grandfather’s Navy Journal from the U.S.S. Westerner, he mentions the Kaiser, Spanish Flu, France, Halifax and the Syrup Factory explosion – his second deployment. A couple of weeks ago Robert Gates signaled that Mr. Obama would not be rendering a quick decision on the deployment or removal of the military in Afghanistan. It’s not as if Mr. Obama wasn’t told some time ago that additional troops were needed. Even though Gen. Stanley A. McChrystal’s report was purposely delayed in receiving by the White House. It’s not as if he isn’t constantly having to be reminded by other politicians or informed of a concerned American father’s thoughts regarding the death of his soldier son in Afghanistan.

There can be no further foot dragging. Our military has been abandoned by this administration. They are dying at will, due directly to the ridiculous new engagement rules and lean quantities of personnel.

You’re probably already aware of it, but the town of Hardin now has a completely private security company called the “AMERICAN SECURITY FORCE” made up primarily of Serbians that has setup shop in this tiny town of 3,500 in the name of establishing a “training facility.”

Problem is, no one’s heard of them, yet they’ve got tons of cash and guns with them and the Sheriff’s Department will cease to have jurisdiction as of the end of this October.

An article in the Anchorage Daily News online reveals that a remaining small band (26 members) of Patriots who served this country during World War II as a part of the Territorial Guard, would have their benefits cut, due directly to the Obama Administration.
