Just a couple of days ago, I had the great fortune of meeting a gentleman by the name of Donald Bowles (a history major). During our conversation, he was eager to show me a letter he had written to Hearst News Service, immediately following the Helen Thomas interview where she loosely exposed her deep-seated hatred towards Israel and Jews. Although she has since apologized for her statement and resigned from the news service, the email still remains current because of the factual history contained within it’s writings.

Mr. Bowles has authorized me to reprint and share his letter with you as seen below:

June 5, 2010

Hearst News Service
Washington D.C. 20005

Dear Sir:

I recently saw an interview of Helen Thomas making her statement that Jews need to go back to where they came from. I know she apologized but she also needs to be educated concerning the facts.

Easter is a day when Christians celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. It is also the most well attended Sunday for Christian churches.

According to scripture, Christians that Jesus came back to life, or was raised from the dead, three days after his death on the cross. As part of the Easter season, the death of Jesus Christ by crucifixion, is commemorated on Good Friday, always the Friday just before Easter. Through his death, burial and resurrection, Jesus paid the penalty for sin and thus provided all eternal life.

Western Christianity marks the ending of Lent with Easter, a 40-day period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual discipline in preparation for Easter. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter Sunday. Eastern Orthodox churches observe Lent or Great Lent, during the 6 weeks or 40 days preceding Palm Sunday with fasting continuing during the Holy Week of Easter. Lent for Eastern Orthodox churches begins on Monday and Ash Wednesday… Read the rest

Over 200 years ago the United States of America was fought for and founded by bold leadership. It was formed as a republic. It was not founded upon religious principles but with religious freedom. It’s not going to change. In the United State we separate Church and State so that one does not interfere with the other.

The Native Americans, immigrants, descendants of the earliest arrivals to this country over 200 years ago, took a roaming, untapped country (through wars, peace, prosperity and squalor) and built a nation. There were many Nationalities that came together with their differences to produce a thoroughbred country. I understand pride in heritage and also of religion but as of lately, there is a religious disorder that is creeping into everyday American life, causing needless deaths, and creating… Read the rest

Blame Notre Dame (FR. Jenkins) for the Shame of the Obama Game

When I got dressed up all in a satiny white dress, gloves, white patent leather shoes, and my veil to receive my First Communion, I was a proud little Catholic girl. This was oh so many years ago, but the memory is still vividly fresh. It is the first time, dressed up, that a little boy or girl is acknowledged as belonging to the collective body of the church. You are able to assume your place at Communion with the adults. Traditional, celebratory, and piety all rolled into one. No Politics.

Fast forward forty years……
What was that at Notre Dame yesterday? Father Jenkins, after notification by higher authorities of their disapproval of the Obama visit, held a pre-POTUS political speech salted with bits of religious rhetoric at a graduation ceremony. It was completely tacky and a horribly ridiculous vision statement. This is the POTUS with the… Read the rest
